Each year, the Human Development Index (HDI), the signature index of the Human Development Reports (HDR), captures headlines across the globe, as countries track their progress in education, health and income. Although The UN set Millennium Development Goals (MDG) at the turn of the century, and development indicators help measure performance over a period of time. The UN uses data from many different sources so that development indicators can accurately portray the situation on the ground. Studying development is about measuring how developed one country is compared to other countries, or to the same country in the past. Development measures how economically, socially, culturally or technologically advanced a country is. The two most important ways of measuring development are economic development and human development. 5. PQLI does not measure economic development and total welfare. 6. There is no unanimity among the economists as to the number and type of items to be included in such an index.
